Since its foundation in 1989, Warp Records has become a synonym for futuristic adventures in sound and vision.
'Warp' tells the story of how a small Sheffield dance label grew to foster an international range of artists including Aphex Twin, LFO, Autechre, Boards Of Canada, Squarepusher, Broadcast, Vincent Gallo, Tortoise, Antipop Consortium, Jimi Tenor, Plaid and Prefuse 73, eventually adding film production to its list of credits with Chris Cunningham, Chris Morris, and Lynne Ramsay.
Coinciding with the rise of the internet as well as radical new music and multimedia technologies during the 1990s, which placed artistic control directly in the hands of musicians, 'Warp's' worldwide success had much to do with its unique relationship to its artists and a determination to remain independent and in control of its own destiny.
'Warp' features interviews with the label's key artists and co-founder Steve Beckett, sections on the prehistory of Sheffield electronica and 'Warp's' stunning artwork by the Designers Republic, plus many unseen photos, documents, press releases, cuttings and artefacts from the label's lifespan, together with a complete discography/filmography from 1989-2005.

'Warp' is the first in a series of illustrated volumes under the title 'Labels Unlimited', surveying record labels whose innovative practices have stamped their identity on musical styles and shaken up the record industry.

It is over 30 years ago now that the Rough Trade shop openend its doors to the public in Notting Hil, West London. Disco and soft-rock ruled the airwaves, The Clash had just signed to CBS and Geoff Travis set up the company with a group of friendsas a communistic, DIY alternative to the increasingly stale mainstream. Over the ensuing years the Rough Trade Shop, Rough Trade Records and Rough Trade Distribution profoundly altered the landscape of modern music.

Run with punk's revolutionary zeal, Rough Trade cast its net wide in its search for musical innovation, from French and Northern Irish punk rock to classic Jamaican dub. the label released many of the most important and enduring records of the 1980sby artists including: The Smiths, Scritti Politti, The Pop Group, The Raincoats, Galaxie 500, The Go-Betweens, Aztec Camera, Robert Wyatt, The Fall, Arthur Russell, Ivor Cutler and Linton Kwesi Johnson. 'Rough Trade' looks back on three fascinating decades of innovation, noise and change, taking in ups and downs, twists and turns and some of the best music ever committed to vinyl.

Following on from 'Warp', 'Rough Trade' is the second in the series 'Labels Unlimited', surveying record labels whose innovative practices have stamped their identity on musical styles and shaken up the recording industry worldwide.
